Circuit MWiB Easter Offering Service

hedge end mwib may 2025

The Circuit Methodist Women in Britain (MWiB) Easter Offering Service was held this year at Hedge End Methodist Church on the afternoon of Sunday 18th May.
The Service, entitled Education for All, Hope for All, was prepared by MWiB as a gift to the Methodist people, following a tradition of fundraising begun nearly 140 years ago.

The Service, which was introduced by the Superintendent Minister Rev John Hughes, focussed on the right of every person to receive an education, noting that girls are less likely to receive an education when impoverished families are required to pay for it. Sadly, according to UNICEF there are currently 32 million primary school age and 97 million secondary school age girls missing out on an education across the globe.

Stories about individuals, prayers and hymns were shared by members from around the Southampton Circuit during the Service, which was led by Local Preacher Alison Judd. Local Preacher Lynne Matthews offered a reflection on the Gospel Reading (Luke 10:38-42), the story of Mary and Martha's interaction with Jesus. Musical accompaniment was provided by Stuart Harding. A bring and share tea followed the Service.

Monies raised from this Service, ordinarily collected on Easter Sunday as a joyous response to the Easter story, were dedicated to the World Mission Fund using the following prayer:

Loving and gracious God, we bring the offerings for the work of the Methodist Church through its World Mission Fund.

Our gifts are our grateful response to your love poured out for us at Easter.

May the money be used to support people where there is need, and to share the love of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

We pray for those who distribute the funds, and for those who will be recipients, that each may learn more of your generous hospitality and love for all humankind. Amen.
