On Sunday 18th May 2025, Hedge End Methodist Church were presented with a commemorative certificate from the National Service Veterans Alliance to recognize the significant contribution made to the life of our country by those conscripted to undertake National Service.
Mr Michael Homer, the National Chairperson of the NSVA presented the certificate to Circuit Superintendent Rev John Hughes and spoke about his personal experience, both highs and lows, of undertaking National Service.
The presentation was undertaken during morning worship and local Member of Parliament Paul Holmes (Hamble Valley) was in attendance.
The certificate was dedicated with the following prayer:
Prayer of Dedication
Today, we meet to give thanks for the
contribution made by all who undertook National Service,
and honour the sacrifice of those among them who
gave their lives so that we might have a better future.
In the faith of Christ,
for the benefit of this community,
and in memory of all those whose National Service is
recognised here today,
we dedicate this memorial certificate to the glory of God.
May it remind us, and all who view it
of the bravery, commitment, and selflessness
of those from this community and from across our nation
who were conscripted to serve in our Armed Forces.
And may it remain an inspiration to us and all who follow,
to do our duty with courage and integrity
in the service of God and all humankind,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
