Woolston Methodist Church celebrated their 90th anniversary over the weekend of 22nd & 23rd June and as usual they welcomed members of the local community to join them in the celebrations.
On the Saturday the Dalian Players, who are based in the church and are well known for their amazing productions throughout the year, hosted an afternoon tea with an original show 'Treasured Memories'. The production and the tea were very much appreciated by all those who attended and a big thank you to all those who made this such a wonderful afternoon. There was also a display of old programmes and photographs from productions dating back many years and this brought back a lot of happy memories for those involved in the productions and those who attended them. There was also an amazing cake made by a member of the Dalian's which was enjoyed on the Saturday and Sunday.
On the Sunday a parade service was held with the Sea Scouts (4-18 years old) in attendance along with the congregation, family and friends. It was a lively service based on Matthew 7:24-29 'The parable of the wise and foolish builders'. The members at Woolston are very blessed to have the wonderful 9th Itchen Sea Scouts who meet in their building and the members really enjoy the parade services. Following on from the service there was a bring and share lunch which was enjoyed by all.
A new banner had been created for the occasion and this was dedicated at the parade service on the Sunday. The banner squares were created by members of the Woolston Craft Club who meet at the church fortnightly on Fridays. The squares were made by Vanessa, Ann Marie, Sarah, Caroline, Diane, Dennis and Amanda and cleverly put together into the banner by Loreen. The banner shows various elements of life at Woolston Methodist Church.
The floral display was created by Ina who is very gifted and regularly provides the church with beautiful seasonal creations.
The lectern fall which was originally made by Caroline for the 70th anniversary was repurposed by Sandra for the 90th anniversary. The other side of the fall represents a season in the liturgical calendar. Being Eco Friendly is obviously in the Woolston DNA.
Something that is very evident when you go to Woolston Methodist Church is the genuine care that the members have for each other and their community and this has been reflected across their 90 year history. The latest venture is the Community Herb Garden but there is also a weekly Thrift Shop on a Tuesday, Stay & Play on Tuesdays in term time, Craft Club fortnightly on a Friday, social events and regular Saturday Indoor Markets. The services on a Sunday are joyous gatherings full of prayer, singing and the preaching of the word. The services are mainly traditional but with something a bit different from time to time.
The members at Woolston are excited to see what God has planned for them in the future and you are always welcome to come and join them. A warm welcome is guaranteed.
